What "adults-only" means
An adults-only resort only accepts guests over a set age. That age is often 16 or 18, and sometimes higher. The rule may apply to the whole property, or only to one section, pool or restaurant within a larger resort that also takes families. Ask which applies, and check the policy before you book if you are traveling with a teenager.
Quiet or lively
Adults-only resorts range widely in mood. Some are built around rest, with quiet pools, a spa and soft music. Others have pool parties, late bars and a nightly entertainment program. Both are adults-only. Read how the resort describes its days and nights, look at the activity schedule, and ask:
- Where and when music plays, and how late.
- Whether there are quiet pools or zones with rules about noise.
- Which rooms are farthest from the bars and entertainment.
- Whether there are themed nights, parties or events during your dates, such as weddings or group bookings.
Dress codes and house rules
Some adults-only resorts have dress codes for dinner, rules about reserving loungers, or sections with their own policies, such as clothing-optional areas. These rules are usually in the resort's policy pages. Read them so there are no surprises, and ask if anything is unclear.
Couples, friends and solo travelers
Adults-only resorts are often marketed to couples, but many welcome groups of friends and solo guests. Solo travelers should check whether the room price assumes two people. Some resorts charge a single supplement, and others set aside rooms or offers for one guest. If you are traveling with friends, ask about room setups with two beds and whether group bookings get their own terms.
Celebrations and special trips
For a honeymoon, anniversary or milestone birthday, ask what the resort can arrange and what it costs. Some extras are free on request, and others are paid packages. Get any promise in writing, and check whether it depends on proof of the occasion.

A note on safety
Resorts focused on drinking and nightlife carry the same risks as any bar. Watch your drink, know how you will get back to your room, and keep the resort's front desk number with you. For destination-specific safety information, read your government's official travel advice for that country.
